West Hartford resident named to MS Society board
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, has named West Hartford resident, David Carter, to join its board of trustees.
Carter works for The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., a leading provider of insurance and wealth management services for millions of consumers and businesses worldwide. Recognized for his leadership and industry knowledge, Carter was recently named to head the Middle Market, Property and Marine divisions.
Carter has a strong personal connection to MS.
"My brother, Keith, lost his battle with MS a few years ago at the age of 41," said Carter, whose Walk MS team recruited 27 participants last year, raising more than $25,000. "Many people struggle with this disease. Joining the Board of Trustees will be a rewarding experience and provide me with an opportunity to have an even greater impact in the battle against this disease."
Born and raised in Arkansas, Carter has made Connecticut his home since graduating from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a degree in marketing. He began his career as a property underwriter for Aetna and worked in various leadership positions at The Travelers Companies for more than 17 years prior to joining The Hartford in September, 2011.
Carter, his wife Julie, and their two children are members of the Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, where he recently served as chairman of the board of administration and finance.
"Mr. Carter is a very influential member of the greater Hartford community who has demonstrated his dedication to our important work in the fight against multiple sclerosis," said Lisa Gerrol, chapter president. "We are pleased that he has joined our Board of Trustees and is so willing to increase his involvement with our chapter and share his expertise and knowledge."
More than 6,000 Connecticut residents live with multiple sclerosis, a potentially debilitating disease for which there is no cure. Funds raised by the chapter through events, such as Walk MS, fund scientific research and provide for the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter to people in Connecticut diagnosed with MS.
