Public input sought on multi-use trail proposal in West Hartford
WEST HARTFORD – The Town of West Hartford is planning the construction of a multi-use trail along the west side of Trout Brook Drive between Quaker Lane South and Jackson Avenue. The project is a continuation of the Trout Brook Trail which was previously constructed between New Park Avenue and Quaker Lane South in 2008. A conceptual design of the trail has been completed and the project is slated for construction under the Surface Transportation Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation for spring 2014.
The Town of West Hartford will hold a public informational meeting to explain the project and receive comments at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12 in room 400 at the town hall, 50 South Main Street.
The project calls for the construction of a 10-foot wide bituminous path that will allow for both pedestrians and bicycles. This section of multi-use trail is part of the town's long term goal to create a trail between Elmwood, West Hartford Center and the University of Connecticut's Greater Hartford Campus. The trail is also expected to support CTFastak, the New Britain-Hartford Busway project which will have a station on New Park Avenue at New Britain Avenue. The multi-use trail will be constructed on town-owned property adjacent to the Trout Brook.
Based upon the conceptual design, the construction costs for the project are estimated to be $584,000 with Federal funds providing $468,000 of the costs and the balance funded by the Town of West Hartford. The project will be administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Surface Transportation Program.
