Mercy's Saint Mary Home in West Hartford receives gift of art
WEST HARTFORD—The Mercy Community, West Hartford's premier continuing care retirement community, is pleased to announce a gift of artwork given to Saint Mary Home's East Two Unit.
Reverend Dr. Molly Louden and her husband, Bruce Louden, of West Hartford, bestowed a generous gift upon Saint Mary Home's East Two Unit in appreciation for the loving care Bruce's mother, Martha Louden Payne, received during her five years as a resident of Saint Mary Home. After Mrs. Payne's death at the age of 100 in November, the Loudens commissioned Sister Mary Daly of Madison, CT to paint a serene pastoral scene so that colleagues, residents and visitors can appreciate the peace and beauty art brings.
"Sister Mary is enthusiastic about art and the healing power of it," said Reverend Dr. Molly Louden. "And we thought it was the perfect way to honor these trusted caregivers."
The Loudens presented the painting, Come Rest Awhile, to Aysha Kuhlor, Saint Mary Home's Director of Nursing and Clinical Services, Bill Fiocchetta, President and CEO of The Mercy Community, and Sister Maureen Reardon, Senior Vice President and Chief Mission and Compliance Officer. The painting was unveiled to the team in a small reception in the East Two Unit at Saint Mary Home.
"What you do every day is incredible," Reverend Dr. Molly Louden told the colleagues. "It's hard work. It's physical. It's emotional. We wanted to give to you something that would bring you a sense of peace."
