Alzheimer's program get $5,000 grant

The Mercy Community, which offers an integrated continuum of care and services for seniors, is pleased to announce that it has received a community grant from the Farmington Bank Community Foundation to further fund the Alzheimer's and Dementia Special Care Community at Saint Mary Home.
The grant from the Farmington Bank Community Foundation will enable The Mercy Community to ensure an even safer and more enriching environment for its Alzheimer's and Dementia Care residents.
The funding will be used to purchase secure automated swing doors that will give residents from the Special Care Community access to an enclosed courtyard and provide music therapy intended to stimulate memory and overall wellness.  These are two elements of a larger program of upgrades to the Special Care Community's environment where respect for the dignity of each person is paramount.
The Farmington Bank Community Foundation, developed by Farmington Bank to help both the economic viability and well-being of residents in the communities it serves, is equally enthusiastic about the program and its focus on a safe, nurturing environment for those in need of Alzheimer's and dementia care.
"The Farmington Bank Community Foundation is pleased to provide Saint Mary Home support for its Alzheimer's and Dementia Special Care Unit. The provision of quality stimulation in a safe environment will help maximize the cognitive and physical level of those inflicted with these insidious diseases," said Christine Traczyk, executive director of the Foundation.
